For medium performance chemical rockets, two stages is the optimum number of stages to get into orbit from earth. To fully analyze a two stage spacecraft, is second stage wanted checkbox must be on and the first stage payload ratio must be positive. If the second stage wanted checkbox is off or the first stage payload ratio is not positive, neither the second nor the third stage will be analyzed, even if the is third stage wanted checkbox is on.

This is used in multi stage spacecraft, and spacecraft cost.
