Total initial labor is the total labor cost of the stages of the spacecraft up to and including the current stage. For multistage spacecraft, the initial labor of the first stage is the largest component of the total initial labor. Total initial labor ranges from five hundred dollars for a seven kilogram model to thirty million for a multistage Saturn V class spacecraft.

Total initial labor is calculated at each stage after the first using the initial labor cost. This is in turn used to calculate the total initial cost.

total initial labor ( second stage ) = initial labor ( first stage ) + initial labor ( second stage )

total initial labor ( third stage ) = total initial labor ( second stage ) + initial labor ( third stage )

total initial cost = total initial labor + total initial structure

This is used in spacecraft cost.
